Sealed road brings joy to kids

Students and teachers at Iaun Primary school in the Tinputz district of Bougainville can now get to school more easily – thanks to a road resealing project funded through the PNG-Australia partnership.
Head teacher Raelyn Kaumu was delighted with the recent works on the road. “The improvements to the road, including road safety measures, means my students are now safer on their way to and from school. The resealed surface also means less dust going into our classrooms. This project is a fantastic boost to our community,” Kaumu said.
The work included repairing and resealing over seven kilometres of the main road as well as improvements to road drainage.
The K7 million project employs 45 local residents and is expected to be completed this month.
Autonomous Bougainville Government Minister for technical services Luke Karaston said the resealed road and improved drainage will benefit the community and will help to strengthen connectivity between Buka and Arawa.
