A TRUCK transporting heavy machinery and goods into Nipa district and Hela broke down an blocked the road at Tindom Hill on Sunday morning.
The truck owned by Trans Wonder Land was transporting materials for a construction company in Hela.
It failed to travel up
Tindom Hill and while reversing its trailer went off the road.
This is the second time a truck owned and operated by a landowner company based in the liquefied natural gas projects in Hela had broken down on the Nipa section of the road in three days.
Last week, a truck broke down at the Suma section of the road in Nipa stopping traffic flow on the road for almost five days.
Nipa district youth leader Jack Galop said yesterday a small space on the side of the road allowed light vehicles to pass through.
He said all big trucks were stranded on both sides of the road, waiting for heavy machinery to tow the truck away.
Galop said that almost every week, trucks would break down on the road in Nipa, blocking traffic.
He said it was an important section of the road leading to the multi-billion kina LNG project and government needed to look in the issue.
Galop said the people in Hela and Nipa were affected by the poor road condition.
They depended on road to transport their produce to markets and to conduct other business.
Nipa district administrator Robin Pip confirmed yesterday that the Tindom Hill section of the road had been cut off to large vehicles since Sunday morning.
