Secondary school appeals for funds to upgrade infrastructure

THE Governing Council of Maprik Secondary School is making a public appeal to all the former students of the then Maprik High School to help their infrastructure development.
The school, through its project management team, is embarking on an infrastructure development project for the construction of two new double-duplex classrooms this year at a cost of K1.2 million to replace the old classrooms.
Maprik High School was established in the early 1970s. Since then there was no proper infrastructure development to cater for the growing number of students when its status was changed to secondary school.
“Previously the number of students registered was 1,200 but it’s now reduced to 1,000 due to the limited resources and space availability, forcing about 200 students to enrol at West-Pukpanda technical school,” school governing council, chairman Peter Simon said.
He said it was the only secondary school in Maprik and the oldest school in East Sepik, and had produced some of the country’s political leaders and government bureaucrats such as former MP Gabriel Kapris, the current MP, Paul Dingu and the former chief secretary to the Government, Joshua Kalino.
The governing council initiated this infrastructure development project to replace the aging buildings and aims to upgrade the rundown teaching facilities and infrastructure in the school.
Simon said they were making a nationwide appeal and the former students of the then Maprik High School to assist.
He said all the former students are requested to assist at the minimum contribution of K100.
Donations could be made to the account, Maprik High School Canteen, No. 1000873727, Bank South Pacific, Wewak Branch, and email the copy of the deposit slip to [email protected] plus their personal details.
