THE NCD Secondary School Soccer League kicked the season off on Wednesday with a sponsorship of over K4,000 from the PNG Ports Corporation.
Chairman of NCDSSSL Amos Bobone in thanking PNGPCL for the assistance said since the inception of the league four years ago,  secondary school soccer has produced great talents in the senior Port Moresby competition with the current PNG U20 captain Roland Bala one fine example.
“The League came into existence purposely to provide the bridging gap between the primary school soccer competition and the adult Port Moresby soccer competition,” Bobone said.
He said the idea was also to promote good relationships between the schools as fighting was a concern.
The sports teachers association hoped that soccer and other sports activities organised would improve inter-school relations.
“Engaging young people in physical and moral education will reduce crime, drug abuse as well as the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“It is about seeing soccer and any other sports as a crucial element in the healing of our nation.” Bobone said.
Eleven schools will take part in the competition with matches scheduled over the first term holiday.
