Secretary announces dates for 2021 academic year, exams

EDUCATION secretary Dr Uke Kombra has announced the academic year and national examination dates so parents and guardians can prepare well for their children’s education.
Dr Kombra said the announcement would ensure that the parents, guardians, Government departments, business houses, churches and non-government organisations plan their activities.
The 2021 term dates:

  • TERM one – Feb 1 to April 9, number of teaching week – 10, term holidys – April 12 – 16;
  • Term two – April 19 to June 25, number of teaching week – 10, holidays – June 28 to July 9;
  • Term three – July 12 to Sept 17, number of teaching week –10, holidays – Sept 20 -24;
  • Term four – Sept 27 to Dec 10, number of teaching week –11, holidays –Dec 13 – Jan 28, 2022;
  • Teachers resume duties on Jan 25.

National examinations dates:

  • Lower secondary school certificate written expression examination (grade 10) – June 3;
  • Upper secondary school certificate written expression examination (grade 12) – Monday, Aug 2;
  • Lower secondary school certificate examination (grade 10) – Oct 11 to 15;
  • Upper secondary school certificate examination (grade 12) – Oct 18 to 22; and,
  • Certificate of basic education examination (grade 8) – Oct 25 to 28.

The theme for 2021 is “Promoting access to quality education and training for All”.
It was derived from the National Education Plan 2020-2029 focus area No. 2 which is access.
“I encourage all officers in the department, the teaching service commission, the office of libraries and archives to observe the theme in their planned activities,” Dr Kombra said.
