Sector needs improving

Letters

DESPITE the difficult financial situation affecting service delivery, some sectors are able to deliver within their tight budget.
However, I have observed that the information, communication and technology (ICT) sector is always struggling to deliver its expected duties.
I wonder whether the Government is aware of this.
The ICT sector is vital for the Government’s service delivery.
Every year, this sector led by its key agencies such as the Department of Communication, National Broadcasting Corporation, Telikom and others are struggling with no goals and objectives.
The leadership in all the agencies need change and reform should be brought into these sectors.
Agencies such as the Department of Communication had done a couple of acting appointments, but despite all that it’s falling in slumbers.
The Government needs to urgently attend to this.
Even the minister seems misled and cannot deliver any tangible services.
The Government needs to act swiftly to revive the ICT sector by appointing a new head to its key policy arm the Department of Communication.
It’s about time this change is done to reform the sector when the country faces an influx of untested ICT technologies, applications and softwares – some which are dangerous.
