EXECUTIVE Security Systems Ltd (ESS) has distanced itself from the death of a Morobe man in a settlement at Igam junction, in Lae recently.

Without denying reports the victim had died from injuries suffered in an assault by their guards, a official company statement claimed the incident involved off-duty guards and their actions could not be attributed to the company.

“To do so would be defamatory,” the company said following a story in The National.

The statement claimed the deceased was part of a gang of four drunken men who allegedly tried to rob an ESS guard armed with knives and screwdrivers when an ESS pickup vehicle arrived at the scene.

“The ESS pickup vehicle arrived at the scene to witness this and two off-duty guards jumped off the vehicle and chased the four drunkards away,” the company statement said.

“Between the two guards and Robert victim), they managed to apprehend the man who was trying to stab Robert.

“Then a police unit arrived on the scene to which the off-duty guards and Robert called out for assistance.”
