SECURITY guards from the three companies engaged by PNG Ports Corporation have undergone fire fighting training by the PNG Fire Service in Lae.
Kuima, Wasman and Executive Security Services had theory and practical sessions with the Lae PNG Fire Service trainers at the PNG Ports Corporation premises at the Lae port last Friday. The purpose of the training was to identify the different types of fires and the appropriate fire extinguishing methods.
PNG Ports Corporation Occupational Health Safety and Environment Officer Gabriel Annis had requested for the training by the Lae Fire service.
Annis said the training was basically arranged to provide guards at the port, especially marine security guards, to ensure they have basic understanding of any eventuality at the port.
He said there were about 12 guards working 24 hours, seven days a week, guarding company facilities and residential areas at the port.
“There have been continuous fires in the city and this is a first of its kind training we have provided to security personnel at the port apart from other training. We have asked the PNG Fire Service to provide us with such service as professionals in fire fighting,” said Annis.
The participants were taught basic knowledge on emergency management planning and fire safety procedures and the practical methods of using fire extinguishers.
