Security guards at shops

Letters

SECURITY guards at secondhand shops in Madang and other provinces have gone to the extreme action of smelling and lifting people’s clothes just to see whether it is stolen or not.
There is no need for security personnel to go beyond their normal routine of checking bags to lifting shirts, blouses and skirts in order to reveal what is underneath.
By now all guards should be able to distinguish between a thief and a customer.
We all know secondhand shops are crowded areas.
No one is stupid enough to just put on any clothes and walk out when everyone is watching.
The law says only the police have the right to thoroughly check people possessing alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons, etc.
The question is: Are our security guards given enough training?
Have they been taught about the laws of this country?
