SECURITY officers at the Goroka Airport in Eastern Highlands have confiscated 15kg of dried marijuana leaves destined for Port Moresby.

The officers from the Manaka Security Services were checking cargo at the counter when they came across the package containing the drugs.

A man who brought the package fled from the airport when the drugs were discovered.

Managing director of Manaka Security Services Obed Zebede said the guards found the package last Thursday.

They took it to the Goroka police station yesterday.

He said they had been discovering packages containing drugs especially marijuana at the airport because they had been very thorough with their checks.

Goroka police are looking for the man.
