Security team set up to protect people

PEOPLE living in a settlement in Lae have set up a team to look after their security and there is
a phone number residents can call when they need help.
The move followed concerns raised by the residents of Bumbu Block near Bumbu River that they were not safe when being dropped off late after work or when travelling into Lae.
Waste Land People’s Association chairman Lot Omole said the security team was in line with the police community policing initiative.
“The association launched this initiative last month which was very effective and many residents in the block have benefitted from it,” he said.
“This is to make sure our mothers and girls are protected and that working people who are dropped off late will be secure to go home as well as
those travelling into Lae late and coming to the
block.”
The association has a phone number people can call for help.
Men in the settlement have been engaged to take care of security.
They will escort people arriving late from work or those travelling in from other centres late.
Omole said people were happy with the move.
