THE Security Industry Workers Union has been formed to look after the welfare of people employed as security officers, according to a statement.

“The SIWU is a recently established union specifically tailored to cater for the welfare needs of workers in PNG’s security industry,” it said.

“The SIWU is for all employees engaged with or associated with all forms of security work.

“Its objective is to be the voice of the workers in the industry and the medium in which workers can achieve a safe, stable and productive working environment similar to those in other areas of the workforce in the country.”

The SIWU was headed by president John Paska and general secretary Clemence Kanau.

It has begun awareness in NCD and will move to other centres.

Officials will be meeting security company managers to create a working relationship in the industry.
