Seeking answers on district’s business arm

Letters

THROUGH The National yesterday (page 26), we were informed that Moresby North East development authority, in its wisdom, has set up a business arm for the electorate under which all small to medium enterprise (SME) activities will come under.
I am a resident of ward 12 in the electorate, and while the idea may sound exciting to many, I would like to seek clarifications.
Who are the directors of this company and how were they appointment?
For a public company such as this, I think a prudent way would have been to publicly invite interested and qualified people to apply to be screened and appointed.
The same goes with the company’s management team, which should be selected based on proper processes in order to get the best people on board because at the end of the day, this company should make profits to supplement the district’s annual budget.
What happened to the Femili Bit SME Programme?
When this first came out in October 2019, I was among the first people to submit my application.
To date, I have heard nothing even though my application met all the requirements including a business plan, business registration, tax compliance, bank account, quotations and past financial statements for my small business.
Has this programme been shelved or is it going to be transferred to this new company?
I want clear answers.
