Seeking justice for killings

Letters

THE killing of innocent people at the hands of criminals started since the Marape/Davis government came into power towards the end of 2019 and has continued unabated into the New Year.
It is as if this government has been blessed by evil with the spilling of innocent blood, who I am assuming are crying out for justice.
The justice we seek is to see that those who have taken innocent lives be put behind bars, locked up and the keys thrown away for good measure.
The killing started in Tari, Hela and parts of the National Capital District became hot havens for these criminal activities to begin, boil over and escalate and still nothing was and has been done about it.
The National’s Friday edition carried a story of a father killed over K100, all because he couldn’t repay the said amount.
This didn’t happen between total strangers, but by someone who had the intent to commit this heinous crime.
Another lost his life at the hands of a machete wielding maniac over 20 toea, also making the headlines of Monday’s edition.
Even this week’s papers have carried stories of law enforcement officers losing their lives in the line of duty.
Police officers once considered pillars of law and order are now fair game to criminals who are fully armed with factory made weapons.
However, the underlying issue here is that there seems to be no respect for the rule of law.
People with issues are taking the law into their own hands, dishing out punishment they see fit.
But who gave the authority to take the law unto themselves is a good question for the government to answer.
At this juncture, we can see that there is no policing or awareness campaigns made to educate people on the rule of law.
How people should behave in this time and age, given the environments we live in.
The onus is respective community leaders backed by political leaders to address law and order in communities, council wards and LLGS.
We are losing control of law and order right now.
The onus is now on the Marape/Davis government to take control of this spiralling law and order issue with firm decisive actions to show the people the government is in full control.
