Select the right coach

Letters

I CONGRATULATE Michael Marum for the six years committed to Papua New Guinea Hunters programme.
Out of that six years, Hunters won a QLD Intrust Cup grand final, a huge achievement and a milestone history in PNG national rugby. Congratulations sir.
You have left behind your family to commit to the Hunters programme. You should be proud that you have left a legacy behind.
We hope that your successor do the same too.
I would like to make an important request to the PNGNRL management to consider selecting a Hunters coach from QLD Intrust Cup.
The reason is very simple – none of our nationals have the experience such as Michael Marum.
For someone to succeed Marum, he should have all the important attributes of a coach. Coaching level certificate, experience in NRL from Australia.
I would not prefer national coaches because of the lack of the above attributes.
Glen Nami and Rodney Puname can be both assistant coaches.
Both are Digicel Cup coaches and don’t have Intrust Super Cup experience as yet.
Nigel Hukula, who had been assistant coach to Michael Marum for five years, decided to leave due to family reasons.
Nami and Puname need to gain more experiences from Intrust Cup competition as assistant coach.
Stanley Tepend would be a preferred coach but he has to be an assistant coach first and be with the Hunters to familiarise himself.
I would prefer someone from Australia with in-depth experience of rugby in Intrust Cup, who can read in and out of players’ weakness and strengths, and place them in the right position.
We the supporters of the PNG Hunters would like Hunters to avoid another wooden spoon next year so please pick the right coach who will add value to Hunters and motivate the players and make sponsors and stakeholders proud.

Hunters die hard fan, Botap
