Selection bias

Letters

The emerging malpractice going on the Aitape district cannot go unchallenged because education obviously is the core fundamental fabric of human society.
So for those entrusted in these positions of responsibility are supposed to be charitable guardians, thereby being very cautious in their policies creation and decision-making.
This vital government service is for everyone regardless of age or status.
The current grade nine selection in Aitape was very biased.
Selection was done based on age and nepotism rather than the students’ academic ability and excellence.
The students being considered were aged 19 or below whilst those aged 20 and above were declined enrolment though they well and better than some of the younger ones.
This is disaster in terms of education to the district and province. I hope the provincial authorities and MP Patrick Pruaitch know about this.
Those so-called administrators should think outside the box when making such decisions.
What about the province human resources?
And the national government’s big talk about the targeted millennium development goals 2030.
Like the universal education, good health, poverty-alleviation, gender equity etc, these government officers are doing things that reverse the results.
I applaud provinces like Enga and New Ireland for getting their acts right by placing human resource development as priority, West Sepik is doing the opposite.
