MEMBERS of the police selection board have been sworn in by Police Minister Robert Atiyafa and Police Commissioner Toami Kulunga.

The three members are Assistant Commissioner human resources Francis Tokura, Assistant Commissioner Southern Command Allan Kundi and Lutheran Pastor Rev Sommy Setu. They will serve as board members for 12 months.

Setu, a former police chaplain, was appointed chairman.

“I am happy as this was the organisation that I worked with before I went back to pastoral duties,” Setu said.

He said he knew the system well and the people in the force and this would make his job easier.

He said he was first appointed to the board by former Police Commissioner Gari Baki in 2008.

He said the board would immediately screen candidates who had applied for positions or were to be promoted.

Setu said the selection system used was to process applicants for the positions from the rank of sergeant to chief superintendent.

He said the system provided that a police officer must perform satisfactorily for a period of two years and pass an examination before he or she would be considered for promotion to a higher rank.
