Semri referred for ‘bad’ behaviour
The National, Thursday 19th April 2012
MEMBER for Middle Ramu Ben Semri has been referred to the parliamentary privileges committee for unparliamentary behaviour.
Semri, who was very vocal and kept parliamentary debate alive when asking the government to report on the current police stand-off and instability in the police force, was said to have lowered the dignity of parliament with his behaviour.
He also argued with the governor for Milne Bay when he was asking questions on the coastal fisheries programme funded by the Somare regime.
Semri was fisheries minister at the time.
Speaker Jeffery Nape ruled that Semri should be referred to the parliamentary privileges committee for unparliamentarily behaviour and asked Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah to move the motion.
Namah, after moving the motion, added that Semri should be dealt with severely for his conduct in parliament.
He said it was the second time the MP was referred following a fight with fellow MP Ken Fairweather.
