Senior cops donate blood
The National, Tuesday 27th November, 2012
NATIONAL Capital District police superintendent of operations Andy Bawa says it is important for people to donate blood because it will save lives.
Bawa said this yesterday after a number of senior police station commanders in NCD and Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary director and assistant police commissioner Francis Tokura went to donate blood at the National Blood Transfusion Service at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
“We are doing this as part of our service to the community and public,” Bawa said.
He said he would liaise with the director of the National Blood Transfusion Service, Dr Merrilyn Mathias, for more police officers to go and donate blood.
“As leaders, we are coming first to donate blood,” he said.
“Later, we will organise police officers at the station to come and give blood.”
Mathias said this was a good initiative by the senior police officers and thanked them for coming forward and donating blood.
“I appreciate the senior police officers taking time off from duty to come and donate
blood.”
She said this was a crucial time as Christmas was approaching and the hospital usually expected to receive many accident victims and often ran short of blood.
“I encourage others to donate blood because you can save a life.”
