Senior staff detained for spreading false info

A SENIOR government officer has been detained for allegedly spreading false information about the chief executive of Menyamya district and the sitting MP.
Morobe police commander Augustine Wampe told The National that as a result of the false information, both the chief executive and MP, had been threatened and there was tension in the area.
He said the officer had alleged on Facebook that the chief executive possessed marked ballot papers for the incumbent MP, Benjamin Philip.
Police investigated and found no evidence to support the claims, he said.
“Such allegations on social media can create conflicts as Menyamya is a volatile district,” he said.
“Highly-educated professionals should not be posting provocative statements without facts and evidence as this can create conflict and violence.”
