THE Turubu local level government in Wewak, East Sepik, is trying to revive the old aid post system in all its villages to ensure that some basic health services are available to people.

The system, which was effective in the delivery of basic health care and treatment some years ago, faded after health workers walked off their jobs because of appalling facilities and infrastructure and no paid positions.

Wewak MP Jim Simatab blasted the East Sepik provincial administration this week for failing to create more positions for health workers in rural health centres and aid posts that caused the fall of many village aid posts.

He said the district was able to build health centres and train workers but if there were no positions created, they would not be paid and would walk off their jobs.

However, Turubu LLG president David Kausik is optimistic he will revive the system with funding now available through the LLGSIP for the health sector.

He presented K10,000 to Wewak district health manager Cletus Bonn yesterday for a feasibility study on all run down major aid posts in the LLG in a bid to reopen them for people in his LLG area.
