The incident occurred 100m from his home in Kuwaghwie village.
His relatives burnt down 13 houses in retaliation. Police are negotiating with the parties to reach a consensus.
Pokas said the motive for the killing was not known.
Yangoru police reported a separate incident of grievous bodily harm in the district over the weekend.
Police said a man was being questioned about the attack.
