THE Sepik Pride bid team will be hosting their inaugural fundraising dinner at Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby tomorrow.
“The dinner is aimed at advertising our bid and brand,” project manager Bradley Simon said of Pride’s intention to join the Digicel Cup next year.
He said they would also be seeking a major sponsor to secure the naming rights to the team. “Papua New Guinea rugby league legends Richard Wagambie and Arnold Krewanty will also be putting their jerseys for auction,” Simon said.
Wagambie’s 1992 Kumuls jersey, Krewanty’s 1989 Newcastle Knights jumper and a signed PNG jersey from the PNG Rugby Football League will be auctioned.
Designer Natasha Tamanabae will also be showcasing designs from her clothing line which will donated for the auction.
Sepik politicians, business houses and other stakeholders are also expected to attend the dinner.
“We are expecting to sell around 58 tables,” Simon said.
He said they were aiming to raise around K200,000 on the night which would help fund their bid.
Simon said Pride’s home venue was nearing completion.
“We have men installing the grand stand seats before we open the venue on Nov 6,” he said.
The Pora Oval has ablution blocks for men and women, and a grand stand.

  • Yes this is long overdue. Our young people in this part of the country are ready to take on the game they love so much. We need to create this path way. There is no full MOMASE rugby representation at the national level and the submission for inclusion in the digicel cup is timely. I was hoping Madang would come on board since they have the established rugby organization. National rugby organization, this is the region you need to put more resources and training. Your focusing too much in the Highlands region where rugby is well established.
