LAYERS and broilers for the poultry project at Huaripmo on the Sepik Plains in the Yangoru-Sausia district, East Sepik, will arrive at the farm in two weeks, says MP Richard Maru.
Maru said actual farming will start this month after 12 months of construction.
“I’m happy to inform you all and our people of ESP that tonight (Saturday), the lights were put on and tested in our chicken sheds at the farm at Huaripmo, Sepik Plains.
“This is part of the requirement to ensure we are ready to start our chicken farm at Huaripmo.
“Our first chickens – both layers and broilers – arrive in the farm in two weeks’ time.
“So in July, we finally start chicken farming and processing by going into the production phase as we end the past 12 months of construction.
“Finally we in East Sepik can produce our own chicken and eggs in large commercial volumes to supply both our provinces and our nation.”
This will be an opportunity for the people in the district to engage in the poultry project.
Innovative Agro Industry (IAI) PNG has developed the foundation for the K30 million modern commercial farming industry.
The poultry outgrower scheme is a partnership between IAI PNG, traditional landowners, Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik and the State, through Kumul Consolidated Holdings’ newly-established Kumul Agriculture Ltd.
The venture is expected to create 235 direct jobs in a facility that will use advanced technology for the production of field crops for high intensive growth stock feed, a hatchery and poultry processing plant and an irrigated cocoa plantation.
