Lae resident judge, Justice Don Sawong has urged members of the law and justice sector to abide by the oaths they swore on and uphold the Constitution to serve God, Queen and the country.
At the 2016 legal year opening in Lae, Sawong said the people were concerned about the rogue behaviour of public servants.
“Most public servants forget the oath to serve God, Queen, country and deliver community service diligently.
“Lawyers misappropriate or steal clients’ money by not performing what they are supposed to perform,” Sawong said.
He said there were many challenges from internal forces in social, political and economic areas, which never came to an end.
Sawong said public servants needed to be mindful, demonstrate dedication, commitment and leadership to resolve challenges and issues affecting communities.
“Criminal behaviour never heard of and experienced in the past is occurring.
“We transit to the new year with all these challenges, hence, we need to be wary and reason how well challenges and issues can be resolved amicably with professionalism,” he said.
The legal year opening ceremony brought together law and justice personnel, public servants and company representatives.
Guests at the ceremony were Morobe Governor Kelly Naru, Nawaeb MP Gisuwat Siniwin, acting administrator Masayang Moat, district administrators, ACP Peter Guinness, Met Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr and judges Sawong, Frazier Pitpit, Jacinta Murray and Australian Federal Police personnel.
