Students from Maprik in East Sepik have been challenged by their MP to serve the district when they returned home for their study breaks.

Member for Maprik district John Simon said this while presenting a cheque of K57,000 to the 38 Maprik students attending the University of Papua New Guinea yesterday.

“As part of the student tuition fee support the Maprik gives to the students, it is good to give something back to the district, and what better way to say thank you than to work in the district,” he said.

He challenged his students to take ownership of the district by assisting with the Maprik town clean-a-thon at the end of the year when they return home for holidays.

He said not one group has helped clean up the town over the past four years he has assisted Maprik students.

Simon urged the students to take ownership of their town and do something for district when they returned for holidays as a sign of appreciation.
