Service delivery

Letters

POOR service delivery is a national issue that affects many people in Papua New Guinea. People are struggling to earn a living.
The services are mostly the result of the lack of accountability, transparency and commitment to make service delivery work for poor and marginalised citizens.
Many people who live in isolated communities don’t have roads and health services.
The present administration and management system need to be improved to cut down on the inadequacies and insufficiencies.
The public service must be aligned with appropriate work training, moral and ethics, discipline and commitment to facilitate the effective delivery of government services. These will help them play their role with their heart to serve the people.
Critical infrastructural facilities will motivate public servants to serve in rural areas to provide goods and services to people.
The construction and maintenance of good transportation and communications network will create economic corridors and increase the movement of goods and services, developing trade in general.
In the rural areas, agriculture extension officers should be posted to each district to educate and train the farmers so that they can participate in the development of our economy, as well as becoming self-reliant.
In the tourism sector, our marine, plant, culture and national biodiversity should be managed in a sustainable manner to
enable growth. Moreover, opportunities should be created and improved for citizens to start businesses.
This can be possible through financial support and the establishment of an entrepreneur skills.
Finally, the prime mandate of any government is to serve the needs of its citizens.
Social and community services including health, education, recreational and welfare programmes are essential for survival in modern societies.
In that way we will achieve our Vision 2050 goals.
