Service delivery in Daulo district

Letters

DAULO electorate, in Eastern Highlands, looks promising in district service delivery under the leadership of Pogio Ghate and district administrator Tobby Samo.
People now see tangible change in infrastructure maintenance and development in some parts of the district such as the Kofena-Kwongi road maintenance, purchasing of land at Yontu village to extend district administration headquarters, tuition fee assistance for tertiary students etc.
Apparently, some serious outstanding issues seemed to be overlooked and forgotten.
First, the cease fire agreement regarding the election-related fight between the two major tribes of Daulo – Asaro and Mando tribes – including border villages of Iufiufa in the Goroka district.
The consensus during the ceasefire was that any candidate declared by the court of disputed returns as duly elected member for Daulo would be responsible to pay for loss and damages incurred in the fight.
To date nothing has been done to effect an official reconciliation ceremony to end this conflict.
People are now growing restless and having constant nightmares.
Second, the district administration has done a good work in regard to service delivery but services appear to be concentrated in certain areas. Many communities in the district, specifically ward 4 in the Lower Asaro LLG is a big time loser.
If this is not the intention of the MP, than the administration smells of partiality to particular groups of people.
The administration really needs to revisit the five-year district service improvement plan launched exquisitely in the district.
A true leader representing majority of the people rather than minority, regardless of the support, traditional ties or whatever relations, would not prefer to work with officers with strings attached to their neck by unnecessary affiliations.
In the name of service delivery and development, Daulo needs to remove needles and pins under the red carpet and walk hand in hand for greater development outcome.
