Service medals presented to Queen’s birthday awardees

NEW knights, speaker Jeffery Nape and moderator of United Church in PNG Rev Samson Lowa, were among 112 Papua New Guineans who were  awarded medals by Governor General Sir Paulias Matane at the 2010 Queen’s birthday honours and awards programme in Port Moresby yesterday.
Sir Paulias, on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, honoured the recipients with knighthood and insignias of the most distinguished order of St Michael and St George, the most excellent order of the British Empire, the imperial service order, the British empire medal and the Queen’s police medal for distinguished service.
The honours which are awarded to civil servants annually on Queen’s birthday was in recognition of distinguished services in many fields of endeavour including services in connection with the Commonwealth or in foreign affairs and for prolonged service, but only when distinguished by exceptional ability and merit.
Member for Sinasina-Yongumugl Jeffery Nape was invested with the Insignia of a Companion of the order of St Michael and St George (CMG) for service to the community and politics as a member and speaker of Parliament.
Another thrilled recipient Douglas James Kelson, 62, from Queensland, Australia, said he was delighted that PNG had given him the honour of becoming a member of the most excellent order of the British empire (MBE) for his services to business and the Ambulance Service.
