THE Police force is determined to address housing projects under its modernisation programme, deputy commissioner administration Awan Sete says.

He said the police hierarchy wanted to address key priority areas quickly such as housing projects before embarking on other areas of concern.

Sete said they had a project priority list for provinces and would ensure that housing projects were implemented.

He described the housing problem as “a pressing issue” and added that many officers were living in rundown houses or in settlements and villages as a result of the shortage of houses.

“The modernisation programme will not bring much relief because the housing problem in PNG is massive but it would see changes in provinces as we continue our efforts to rid this issue,” Sete said.

He added that work had started in Lae, Madang, Mt Hagen, Kokopo and other centres would be included in the future, he said.

“Despite, land acquisition, surveying and tender procurement procedures difficulties the police force is determined and will ensure that the programme is implemented,” Sete said.
