EVERY working day during the past six weeks a huge crowd has been gathering at the Department of Petroleum & Energy (DPE) office at Garden Hills, Waigani.
These people are coming in from all parts of the city.
And they return to all parts of the city after they congregate.
Chances of transmission of germs (bacteria and viruses) are quite high.
These people are violating the state of emergency controller’s orders with respect to social distancing.
While it could be easy for police to use heavy handed tactics to disperse the crowd, it would be better to solve the issue by addressing the cause.
These group of people are waiting to receive their cheques.
The cheques are ready as per the secretary’s press statements.
The first lot were recalled and new ones were rewritten.
The DPE must pay the cheques promptly so the crowd can disperse.
The SOE controller might as well investigate the cause of the crowd.

Concerned,
Morata II
