Settlements need help

Letters

PEOPLE who have poor housing in Port Moresby should also be considered when plans are made to develop the city.
They should be the Government’s top priority.
We see work on roads, water, electricity, schools, aid posts, etc, but poor people are still living in old and rundown houses which families have been using for generations.
People living in settlements in the city are being ignored and remain undeveloped. MPs elected into electorates in NCD have remained dormant. I have not seen any changes in the settlement that I grew up in – not even a single basic service had been introduced.
It’s frustrating and unacceptable and I don’t understand why it does not concern the Government and the MPs in NCD.
Life in the settlements is difficult. Most people living in the settlements are engaged in informal businesses to survive in the city.
Crime is a problem because most youths in the settlements lack the education to find work in this digital age.
The responsibility rests upon each MP to initiate changes in the settlements. MPs should serve the interest of his people and not his own personal interest.
I personally detest cruel MPs who only serve their interest and disregard his people and his electorate.
Making a formal petition to an MP to promote change and cater for quality leadership towards his people in his electorate can easily be disregarded or put away because he may not have time for his people.
The vital basic services he promised on the campaign trail therefore remain unfulfilled.
MPs, the people are not your pets for you to push around, now that you have authority.
I call on each MPs in NCD to look at the settlements in the city and do something positive to change the lives of people who daily face hardship. MPs can start by providing basic services like water, power, road and housing.
I am tired of hearing excuses like funding problems.
