MORESBY North-East MP Labi Amaiu and National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop have presented three cheques worth K1 million to Eda Ranu to supply water to settlements in ATS 8-Mile in Port Moresby

The cheques were presented at the Eda Ranu head office yesterday.

Parkop presented two cheques and said K300,000 was from the Provincial Support Improvement Programme (PSIP) and the other K300,000 was from the NCD .

Amaiu gave a cheque for K400,000, while another cheque for K500,000 would be presented by Minister for Planning, Charles Abel.

Amaiu said the ATS area was the biggest settlement with people from the highlands, coast and New Guinea Islands living there.

“The biggest problem is water. In the past other members had made statements but never acted on it but through financial support and leadership service will be provided,” Amaiu said

Parkop said the basic need for a water supply was happening because of partnership.

“In the past open MPs were working by themselves but now there is cooperation.”

Parkop also urged landowners not to do things with their land that were not in accordance with the city plan.

“I am disappointed with the office of urbanisation for not looking at the projects taken up by landowners.

“There must be cooperation with state-owned enterprises like Eda Ranu and PNG Power to provide good public utilities,” he said.
