SIRAKA settlers from Gulf living in Central have vowed to live in peace and harmony after surrendering equipment used to produce home brewed liquor.
The equipment was destroyed by settlement leaders in front of Gerehu police station commander Hoves Kora and his officers.
Ward councillor Joe Timberson said alcohol and drug abuse caused many law and order problems in their community.
Siraka law and order chairman Willy Dickson urged parents to help their children become law-abiding members of the community.
“In this community, our new married couples and young adults are producing, consuming and selling steam, and marijuana,” he said.
“To live in peace and harmony in our community, we need to leave out steam and drugs.”
Kora told the settlers brewing of home-brew could destroy their lives.
“Let’s all work together to have a peaceful and safe community.”
Dickson added that law breakers in the settlement were disciplined with fines ranging from K20 to K100 under the village court laws.
