SIRAKA settlers in the Kairuku-Hiri electorate, Central, supply  Port Moresby city markets with fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh river fish and wallaby (magani) meat.
Councillor Joe Timberson said the Siraka settlement was established in 1964 and was predominately occupied by people from the Gulf province.
The settlers lived on the traditional land of the Baruni people, with a traditional life style of subsistence gardening, fishing, and hunting in their savannah and swampland environments.
Timberson said Siraka was close to NCD but located in Central.
“We are in the Kairuku-Hiri electorate under the Hiri LLG in the ward 18 council area.
“Our community is in Central, but we are  receiving most of our goods and services from NCD,” he said.
