A LANDOWNER in Lae is calling on settlers to respect each other and live in peace because they came to the city for a reason.
Back Road landowner Ruben Mindari, speaking to the Yangoru-Saussia and Wosera people who had a fight last week resulting in the destruction of properties and injuries, said everyone needed to respect each other to make the community a safer and better place to live.
“I have respect for you all,” he said.
“I have a title on this land and I have developers showing interest to come in but I never allowed them because I have a heart for you (settlers).
“That is why I don’t want you to fight amongst yourselves.
“From now on, I don’t want unnecessary noises or fights.
“I want freedom of movement for everybody.
“I want things to go back to normal.
“If you don’t listen, the grace period will be over.”
Lae metropolitan operations commander Snr Insp David Kumayon said people who were causing problems in the community had to be removed.
Kumayon said the values in the society were fading because of the lack of respect, especially among the youths.
“Most of the problems in the city are caused by youths consuming drugs and alcohol,” he said.
“We are all Papua New Guineans, ethnic conflict is bad for us.
“I want the landowners to set up a by-law for the community and anyone disobeying these laws must be evicted.”
