Seven centres set for Fun Run

WITH just 12 days to go, the 2019 Trukai Fun Run is set to kick off at seven locations around Papua New Guinea.
The seven centres confirmed to host the Trukai Fun Run are Port Moresby, Lae, Alotau, Ramu, Madang, Goroka and Kokopo.
The company said in a statement that an estimated 80,000 people took part in the Fun Run in 2018 and it was expected that more people would participate this year.
This year’s route for Port Moresby has moved from Sir John Guise Stadium to the Paga Ring Road at Ela Beach. The run starts at 6.30am from the Paga Ring Road adjacent to the APEC Haus, past Harbourside down to the Puma Service Station roundabout and heads back the same route to the finish at the ring road.
Trukai brand manager Nancy Inai said preparations were well underway to ensure a safe and enjoyable event in Port Moresby and other locations.
She encouraged everyone to be in their 2019 Trukai Fun Run T-shirt to participate.
“Trukai and the PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC) are working with all relevant stakeholders such as St John’s Ambulance, police, National Capital District Commission and others to make this year’s event safe and enjoyable for all our participants,” she said.
The route is estimated to be 6km and Port Moresby residents are urged to come along and enjoy the day with their families and be a part of the run.
The Trukai Fun Run is an annual fundraiser for PNGOC to raise money for Team PNG.
Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards supporting Team PNG at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, next month to ensure our sportsmen and women are well represented at such sporting events.
Each year, Trukai donates 100,000 T-shirts to PNGOC to sell and raise funds.
The event is 36 years old, having started in 1983.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Trukai as the official sponsor of the event since 1999.
Early this year, the Fun Run auctions sold 61,200 shirts in Lae and Port Moresby, a massive achievement from previous auctions.
If the crowd from last year’s event is any indication, 2019 is expected to see over 40,000 participants flock Ela Beach in a sea of yellow on June 16.
T-shirts are selling for K15 each.
PNGOC and Trukai can be contacted on 3231411 and 3000000 respectively to buy T-shirts.
There will also be T-shirt sales at the seven locations in the coming days. For more information about the run, visit www.facebook.com/trukaifunrun.
