Sevens side ready for Glasgow

 THE PNG South Pacific Export men’s sevens team will compete in a one-day tournament on July 12 in England prior to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 7s and The City tournament will be used as lead-up competition in preparing the team for the bigger event.

After arriving on Monday from Canberra, Australia, the squad has taken this week off training before they depart for England next Monday.

Replacement, Albert Levi arrives today and will join the squad in camp at the Malolo Estate (8-Mile), Port Moresby.

Levi has come on board to replace Henry Liliket who has 14 weeks of recovery after undergoing ankle surgery last month in Canberra.

Levi’s experience in previous international tournaments will be a great boost for the team which consists of young, talented players.

The Pukpuks went through an eight-week high performance training camp under the guidance of specialised coaches and trainers at the ACT Brumbies Academy as part of PNG Rugby Football Union’s development programme sponsored by Monier Limited.

All 12 players including PNG men’s sevens head coach Fereti Verebula returned on Monday looking fit, healthy and set for the games in Glasgow.

The 7s and The City tournament will be used get the players match fit and to test their strength and skills.

The Pukpuks depart for England on Saturday (July 5) and will be training there for a week before heading to Glasgow, Scotland on Sunday (July 13).

The PNG sevens team: Billy Torea, Emmanuel Guise, Stanis Susuve, Henry Kalua, Wesley Vali, Hubert Tseraha, Dondon Kais, Nathan Baramun, Hensley Peter, Butler Morris, Seki Sisah, Albert Levi Junior.
