THE Seventh-Day Adventist Church has ended a week-long conference for Eastern Highlands and Chimbu women in Yani district, Chimbu.

It was launched last Wednesday by Morobe Governor Kelly Naru and host Governor Noah Kool. They travelled to the remote venue by helicopter.

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso was invited but could not attend.

Lands and Physical Planning Minister Benny Allan sent his apologies. He gave K10,000 to women from his electorate to attend.

The conference involved all 17 districts that cover the neighbouring provinces of Eastern Highlands and Chimbu known as the Eastern Highlands and Simbu Mission.

Event organisers claim that 15,000 women registered to attend the conference. They were joined by their husbands and children, plus overseas visitors who made their way to the mountain locality.

Kool, a SDA Church member, said SDA women were known to have blessed hands and the occasion was historic for Yani and the South Chimbu district.

Naru said it was a significant event.

Kool is from the area. Naru’s mother is from there.
