Severe injuries land man in court
The National, Wednesday February 18th, 2015
A MAN was committed to the National Court to face trial relating to assault charges causing severe injuries to another man in Port Moresby last August.
Magistrate Mekeo Gauli ordered at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday that there was sufficient evidence to warrant the committal of the Gari Doura.
Gauli said witness statements gathered during police investigations were sufficient to warrant a trial.
A co-accused, Michael Mexico Junior, was not in court. Doura said they had difficulty locating Mexico.
The court heard that on Aug 8 last year at Hanuabada village in Port Moresby, Doura was allegedly drunk and punched a bystander, Ralph Samban (victim).
Samban and Doura resorted to fighting each other but Doura was out of breath and both agreed to refrain from fighting. Then Mexico approached from behind them and kicked Samban repeatedly.
As a result, Samban sustained injuries in his head and eyebrow and lost two teeth.
