MEDIA personnel in Port Moresby yesterday had their first informal meeting at the Ela Beach Hotel to share stories and get to know each other.

The monthly meeting is an initiative of the media development initiative (MDI) which aims to bring media personnel to meet each other and address matters of common interest.

The MDI is a partnership between ABC Australia and the National Broadcasting Corporation of  Papua New Guinea, with funding from AusAID.

MDI team leader Jobby Jalbeep Katwala said: “The gathering is an approach in which MDI can identify how the media can be strengthened in the country.”

He said by mingling with other journalists, the idea was to share and find out ideas to come up with plans on how the MDI can work out the best plan to boost and assist the media industry in PNG.

“This may include the possibility of training or other needs that will be recognised and considered as the best approach to take later on.”

Yesterday’s meeting attracted journalists, reporters, presenters, producers, photographers, camera operators and other media personnel from PNGFM, EMTV, Kundu2, NBC, Post-Courier, ABC Australia, Wantok Niuspepa and The National.
