A RABAUL Shipping vessel, mv Alotau, experienced problems on Sunday evening and had to go aground at Kilenge in West New Britain, reports said.

WNB disaster coordinator Leo Mampmani confirmed yesterday that the ship had taken in water and had to offload its passengers at Kilenge at 7pm on Sunday.

He said the problem had been rectified but another vessel was dispatched from Rabaul to pick up the passengers at Kilenge.

Mampmani said attempts to get reports from the company’s head office in Rabaul had been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, a female passenger of the mv Alotau told the local radio station in East New Britain on Sunday that there were no casualties but some passengers had lost their possessions during the incident.
