UNITED Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) champion, shooter Tania Mairi Mahuru, is looking forward to the opportunity to speak on global goals with the Bougainville community with her fellow champions.
“We’re equally pleased to have local athletes getting behind the important messages promoted by the tournament and helping to raise awareness on the SDGs,” Mahuru said.
“Just like anywhere in PNG, the work towards the achievement of the SDGs will benefit the development of Bougainville and its people and I am proud to be part of the group who will be on the ground to promote SDG ambitions in Bougainville.”
Bougainville Rugby Union founder and executive director of PNG Sports Foundation Peter Tsiamalili Jr thanked the UNDP and the Papua New Guinea sporting heroes who were appointed to raise awareness of the global goals.
“Through this initiative we must promote our joint partnership and enhancement of the Bougainville Rugby Union regional sevens circuit,” Tsiamalili said.
“Driving the SDGs and supporting lasting peace on Bougainville is a priority.”
Papua New Guinea is one of 192 member states of the United Nations that adopted the SDGs in 2015.
