THE Covid-19 state of emergency has affected many lives but it has not stopped people’s readiness to help each other.
The Moresby Betting Shop Ltd in Gordon, Port Moresby, has been providing free hand sanitising, soaps, and face masks to the public since last Monday from 9am to 4pm. “Amid all the doom and gloom and negativity every day with this virus threatening all of us, we have decided to act positively, and make an impact against Covid-19 rather than take a back seat, and be part of the crowd,” managing director James Pang told The National.
The National caught up with Pio Lavai, a Goilala man residing at Kuriva with his nephew and grandson who were among those served on Friday.
“I came to the city to leave my nephew and grandson and we came across this service,” Lavai said.
Gordon resident Michael Kupi said moving around the city meant people were highly exposed to germs.
Therefore regular hand-sanitising was important.
Pang said his staff had been trained to educate the public and had given away 2,000 face masks and soap.
The initiative was funded by The Sanctuary Hotel Resort and Spa, Rapopo Plantation Resort and the Moresby Betting Shop.
“We will continue to provide this free service to our community until Covid-19 goes away,” he said.

  • I am a punter who prefers Port Moresby Betting Shop as a spot of gambling. It is a good initiative for the company to provide this free service to the community.

Many thanks to the Management of POM Betting Shop
