The national government through the Department of Public Service recently ran short courses in some districts, including Wewak.
The courses were to enhance the skills and knowledge of district administration staff in their roles and responsibilities.
The week-long course involved 40 participants from the six district administrations in the province.
Florence Masuan, speaking on behalf of the women participants during the closing ceremony, commended Wewak district development authority for giving the women the opportunity to be part of the training.
She said many things are changing in terms of administrative roles responsibilities and processes and short course can help staff keep abreast of changes and maintain standards.
She said gender balance was an important issue faced by many women workers today and having more training can help promote gender equality and put more women in key positions.
Meanwhile, Wewak district administrator Martine Maingu has commended the member for Wewak and the district authority for introducing the training programme to Wewak and also the Department of Public Service and AusAID for funding it.
He said the courses was the first of its kind and would not be the last.
Maingu said the district would facilitate future courses with the national government to upskill workers.
The courses was funded by the State and AusAID and was facilitated by the Institute of Public Administration.
