IF men change their attitudes, they can learn to promote and support women in Papua New Guinea, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says.
Parkop referred to women and girls as champions who needed respect especially from men.
He said respect would happen if it came from individuals who acknowledged one another.
Parkop said during yesterday’s Walk for Life which was with the special Valentine’s Day theme of “Champions Walk” that since it was Valentine’s Day, respect had to start by acknowledging women and girls and giving them the credit they deserved.
He said in this way, it would be easier to solve problems within the family and society as a whole.
He said everyone has to choose peace to solve disputes and settle problems.
He urged the people to address issues by following the right channels of communication and bringing these issues to the right leaders so that they would be addressed and violent acts reduced.
He also urged youth, especially young men, to grab whatever opportunities provided to them by his team so that they may learn skills to build a better and prosperous society.
Parkop acknowledged Women Arise PNG for taking a stand against different forms of violence committed against women and girls in the country.
He said using violence to solve issues and problems would only give rise to more violence in the country.
Women, men, children and representatives from as far as Laloki outside the Port Moresby city and representatives from Goroka braved the weather to take a stand on violence against women and girls in the country.
