Show to invite international participants
The National, Wednesday September 18th, 2013
THE Goroka Show will become an international event to include overseas participants starting next year, Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso says.
While opening the 2013 Goroka Show, Soso said interested performers from overseas would be welcomed to attend and take part.
“We will strive to make the Goroka Show an international cultural event that will allow overseas performances to be part of it,” Soso said.
She said the provincial government was organising the show as from this year onwards and should continue to fund its operation.
She said Goroka’s businesswoman Keryn Hargreaves was appointed chairperson of the show to take charge of the event.
She thanked the 150 singsing groups, stall operators, artists, sponsors and everyone who played a part in making this year’s show a success.
Hargreaves thanked the major sponsors, National Gaming Control Board and the Eastern Highlands provincial government for the financial support.
She also acknowledged the different singsing groups that took part and tourists who came from all over the world.
