THE Southern Highlands provincial administration has welcomed the initiative to create six new local level governments in Nipa-Kutubu.

It is the initiative of new Kutubu LLG president John Pipi Kila.

Deputy provincial administrator Jerry David told The National that the idea was good but there were proper channels and procedures to follow before his idea was considered.

David was referring to an article published in The National last week which stated that a proposal was being developed to establish six additional council wards in the Kutubu LLG.

“Kila must consult his public servants in his district to do the documentation and follow the normal procedures,” he said.

David said the public servants were there to help and it was better to consult them.

“Government’s set procedures and protocols are in place to adhere to doing government’s business and we have to seek proper consultation before attracting public attention,” he said.

Every elected LLG president had similar ideas of creating extra wards for the delivery of government services to a manageable number of people as the population had increased over the years,” David.

“It is genuine and I urge LLG presidents to seek advice from their government officers in their districts to undertake policy submission through the provincial government,” he said.

He congratulated the newly-elected presidents and said they were members of the Southern Highlands provincial government and urged them to work hard to develop their LLG wards.

Kila’s proposal came after complaints that some wards were too big for a single councillor to handle.
