MEMBERS of parliament from Southern Highlands have been urged to return home instead of working from Port Moresby.
Southern Highlander Jeffrey Temo said over the past five years, all MPs and the governor had been operating from Port Moresby without any feasible developments to benefit the people back home.
He said the Agiru Centre had remained empty, major roads needed urgent repairs and people in the remote areas could not access education and health facilities.
Temo said too many tendered projects had yet to be implemented while the people’s money was being mismanaged and diverted elsewhere.
He said Mendi was fast becoming a “cowboy town” with growing petty crimes, disrespect for law and order and a booming informal sector on the main streets.
He said it was frustrating to live in a province that was rich in mineral resources but was not progressing.
He said Southern Highlanders had to travel to neighbouring provinces to look for better services.
