SHP teachers prepare for new curriculum

TEACHERS in Southern Highlands are preparing to implement the standard-based education curriculum to replace the Outcome-Based one.
Provincial manager for in-service training Terry Gaso said 80 senior teachers attended a two-week training last week.
They will go back to their schools and train their colleagues on the new curriculum. The new curriculum will include the new Citizen and Christian value education.
The curriculum which was to start this year had to be delayed because the province was still recovering from the February earthquake and political instability relating to the 2017 general election results. Gaso said the biggest problem was funding and logistics support.
They have sought the support of MPs in the province and their district development authorities to fund the implementation of the programme.
“Introducing the new curriculum is welcome news to our people and we have to make sure it reaches our schools,” Gaso said. “Teaching children is important as we are dealing with humans and we have to be very careful,” he said.
Gaso said Southern Highlands was competing with other provinces in rolling out the curriculum.
“What we will do here now is for the future of our children and we have to help to make sure we implement it properly,” Gaso said.
